Schells Buys Grainbelt!

Wow! My favorite Minnesota Brewery (and one of my favorite breweries, period) Schell's bought Grainbelt, the Minneapolis icon (their neon sign is a Minneapolis landmark, sort of like the gigantic Citgo sign in Boston). Good to see that Grainbelt will remain in Minnesota, and in good hands.

Open Source versus Free Software Songs

Lloyd Wood has posted an amusing open-source song on Advogato: THE FASHIONABLE OPEN BALLAD OF A CAMP FOLLOWER. It's a counter point to the famous Free Software Song.

Personally, I like the Free Software Song better (go figure), but the Open Ballad is pretty funny. Speaking of the free software song, there's now an Ogg version by the band Fenster. It's pretty cool...they can actually sing, unlike RMS.

This is the first Ogg file I've ever listened to of my own volition. I don't listen to much digitized music.

Zoe

Zoe looks super cool. I remember this coming out a while ago as closed source, but the source code is now available. Unfortunately, it's under an Apple Public Source-style license which is not GPL compatable.

Come on people! Make your code compatable with the GPL!

I would also like to see its features in a richer client than the browser. I don't want to write mail (or anything else, for that matter) in a TEXTAREA. That's why I've got a mail client. Hopefully a rich-client will build upon Zoe's ideas. However, having this your personal data available from anywhere is sweet. I'm doing that with AmphetaDesk right now, and it rocks.
